Before budgeting for the Erasmus Mundus joint Master in Artificial Intelligence, match the funding terms to the admission cohort. On 16 October 2026, EMAI's application page describes 2027–29 self-funded entry, while its scholarships-and-fees page still labels its tuition and funding information for 2026–28. Those pages cannot be combined into a confirmed 2027 scholarship package.
This is a funding-evidence guide for prospective EMAI applicants. It does not establish a 2027 fee, scholarship availability, admission eligibility or an individual award. The useful next step is to identify the actual funding route before committing money.
Put the cohort beside every figure
The official scholarships and fees page explicitly labels its self-funded annual fee and proposed scholarship/waiver numbers for the 2026–28 edition. Treat those as that edition's published terms. Do not rename an older annual rate as the price for a later intake, multiply it into a new whole-course quote or convert it into a family budget without current confirmation.
The application and selection page identifies the 2027–29 cohort and rolling results. It lists a first period beginning 15 November 2026 for worldwide self-funded candidates, followed by a separate EU self-funded period. The programme homepage says applications are currently closed and the next round opens in November 2026.
At this check, that is consistent with a future opening rather than an application already submitted or a place available to a particular person. Recheck the live calendar and the exact candidate category before acting. This article does not infer a 2027 scholarship call from an older funding page, nor conclude that future scholarships can never be offered.
Distinguish a stipend from a fee waiver
The older funding page describes Erasmus Mundus Scholarships with a monthly stipend and a separate full fee-waiver route. Its waiver description covers tuition for both study years, programme activities and two-year health insurance. It does not describe the waiver as the same monthly cash payment as the scholarship.
A reduction in charges and cash available for living expenses affect a budget differently. Even where tuition is waived, travel, accommodation, daily spending and payment timing still need evidence. Do not enter the value of waived tuition into a bank-balance or arrival-cash line as if it were a transfer to the student.
For an actual offer, record precisely which benefit has been awarded, the applicable cohort, coverage period, exclusions and acceptance conditions. If the communication only confirms academic admission, keep funding unconfirmed. If it offers a waiver, identify the remaining living and mobility funding before accepting a plan that depends on a stipend.
Ask when usable money arrives
For the scholarship arrangement described on the older page, the first stipend payment occurs only after arrival in Barcelona. That is a useful warning about cash timing, not a promise that the same award or disbursement schedule applies to 2027–29.
Ask for the current award terms and initial-payment conditions if you receive a funded offer. Identify what you must finance before payment, such as travel, initial accommodation and other arrival costs. Keep an unconfirmed grant outside confirmed funds even if a programme is historically associated with European funding.
Use the scholarship-stage guide to distinguish eligibility, application, selection and usable confirmed support. This EMAI case adds a separate gate: the support must belong to the same cohort and route as the admission you are considering.
Do not mix application categories either
The current application page distinguishes some document requirements for self-funded candidates from other candidates and retains an older cohort label in its questionnaire instructions. Do not assemble a checklist by taking whichever requirements appear easiest across different sections or years.
Follow the current call and application system for the route actually open to you. If the page, questionnaire or instructions disagree about the cohort, clarify the correct version before submission. This review did not open an account, inspect a private application or test what the live system accepts.
Academic selection and financing remain separate. A programme's AI title or career ambitions do not establish a salary, paid internship or job that will finance study. Investigate learning fit and employer access independently, and keep hoped-for work income out of the funding gap.
Make a cohort-matched funding card
Use five fields: exact cohort and candidate route; official tuition quote and fee period; awarded benefit and exclusions; disbursement and upfront cash; and unresolved evidence with a fallback decision.
Compare two honest possibilities where appropriate: a fully self-funded route using a current quote, and a funded route only if its actual terms become available. Do not label either affordable until the remaining costs and resources are established. The full-budget guide helps keep those costs visible.
Your next step is one current, coherent evidence pack. A university's older scholarship page can help you ask better questions, but it cannot supply an award that has not been confirmed for your intake.
