- Description: Check UCD part-time analytics daytime attendance, employer support, quantitative preparation, total fees and the applicable study permission.

Part-time study does not necessarily mean evening classes or a timetable that leaves every working day free. If you are considering UCD Smurfit’s MSc Business Analytics alongside employment, compare the actual attendance and assessment commitments with your job before treating the format as manageable.

For someone applying from abroad, there is a second question: does the study format fit the permission they would need? Academic admission, timetable compatibility and immigration permission are separate checks. A programme’s part-time option does not resolve all three.

## Start with the programme’s attendance warning

Checked on 13 October 2026, [UCD’s official programme overview](https://www.smurfitschool.ie/programmes/masters/mscinbusinessanalytics/?ref=peridot.works) describes one-year full-time and two-year part-time formats. It says part-time students attend lectures, tutorials and group assignments with the full-time cohort, whose schedule is during working hours; employer support is essential. The page displays September 2026, now past. It does not establish a future intake’s availability or timetable for you.

Obtain the schedule applicable to your intended intake and ask how it can change. Map contact sessions, group work, assessments and travel against your actual job commitments. Do not replace those dates with a general estimate of weekly study hours and assume the conflict has disappeared.

Ask your employer what support is actually possible, such as time away for required attendance or an agreed adjustment to duties. Keep the answer in its real scope. An informal expression of encouragement is different from permission for the specific absences you would need.

## Check the quantitative preparation separately

The [eligibility and fees page](https://www.smurfitschool.ie/programmes/masters/mscinbusinessanalytics/eligibilityfees/?ref=peridot.works) asks for an appropriate honours degree with quantitative techniques. Business applicants need relevant MIS, mathematics or other quantitative study; individual overseas comparability is assessed by admissions. A commerce degree title alone cannot establish that preparation.

Review your actual transcript and identify what you have studied and used. Which statistical, mathematical or computing concepts can you explain? Which gaps would you need to address before starting? Ask about the expected level of preparation rather than assuming the longer format is an easier academic route.

Use the [course-comparison guide](https://www.peridot.works/compare-masters-courses/) to connect modules and assessments with the work you want to become better at. Keep prerequisites, learning fit and financial fit as distinct rows. Passing one check does not settle the others.

## Do not infer permission from the course format

[Ireland’s official immigration-stamps guidance](https://www.irishimmigration.ie/registering-your-immigration-permission/information-on-registering/immigration-permission-stamps/?ref=peridot.works) describes Stamp 2 as permission for a full-time eligible course, subject to conditions. It also sets separate limits on student employment. A part-time academic offer should therefore not be assumed to supply the ordinary full-time student route or unrestricted working hours.

If you already live and work in Ireland under another permission, verify the conditions that apply to that permission and the proposed study. If you would need permission to move to Ireland for study, establish the appropriate route before making commitments. This guide does not determine your individual status or state that every international applicant has the same restriction.

Keep the initial study decision separate from any later graduate permission. Our [Stamp 1G timeline](https://www.peridot.works/ireland-masters-stamp1g-timeline/) concerns a conditional graduate route; it does not approve the initial part-time course or promise a later stay for this applicant.

## Compare the total commitment, not one annual fee

UCD’s fees page labels the part-time tuition per year for 2026/27 and warns that charges can change, including increases in Year 2\. Do not treat the displayed annual amount as a complete two-year quote or import it into a future intake without confirmation.

Obtain the applicable fees for the whole intended route, along with payment dates and any continuation conditions relevant to delayed completion. Add travel, materials, actual housing commitments and other costs that apply to your circumstances. No current price is quoted here as your total budget.

Use the [full master’s budget guide](https://www.peridot.works/masters-budget-beyond-tuition/) to separate expected spending from confirmed funds and cash availability. If the plan assumes you will keep earning, show what happens if your working hours change or employer support is narrower than expected. This is a contingency exercise, not a forecast that your employment will be disrupted.

## Make a work-study conflict record

Create one row for each known attendance or assessment commitment. Beside it, record the work duty it may affect, the current source, the support actually agreed and the unresolved question. Include group coordination and commuting rather than counting only lectures.

For an original planning exercise, imagine a required daytime class overlapping a regular work responsibility. Identify the options you would need to discuss and who can authorise each. Do not assume recorded lectures, remote attendance or an alternative assessment exists unless the programme confirms it. The exercise produces a question, not an entitlement to a special arrangement.

Then compare your intended career benefit with the commitment. Which analytical tasks do you want to perform, and what evidence of those skills would you aim to build? Check current employer requirements independently. A course’s employment headline cannot establish that you will obtain a different role or promotion.

UCD’s programme outcome-method audit remains unresolved in our research, so no employment percentage is used here as a forecast. The practical decision concerns whether this specific study format, preparation, permission and confirmed resources fit your situation.

Finish with three answers you can substantiate: the timetable you must meet, the support your employer has agreed and the permission and funding basis for the plan. If a material answer remains unknown, resolve it before accepting the format as compatible with your working week.
