- Description: Check the exact award, awarding institution, Swiss accreditation scope and intended next use before shortlisting a Swiss master’s route.

A useful Swiss master’s shortlist starts with the exact qualification, awarding institution and place of study. A list of attractive school names cannot answer whether a particular award suits your next study or career step. Check those details before comparing rankings, campus photographs or a broad claim of international recognition.

This guide is for students and families comparing Swiss study options, including hospitality and business routes. It offers five checks and a compact evidence record. It does not rank schools or establish the status of every programme at an institution. Institutional accreditation, a particular qualification and acceptance for your intended purpose need separate answers.

## 1\. Write the exact award and awarding institution

Copy the full qualification title from the current programme documentation. Record who teaches the course, who awards the qualification, the campus and the intended intake. If a page describes two awards, create a separate line for each rather than treating “dual award” as a complete explanation.

Ask which institution’s name will appear on each certificate and transcript. A campus address and a familiar brand name do not identify the awarding body by themselves. Where a foreign university is involved, request confirmation of its role from that university’s current official source as well as the teaching provider.

Keep unanswered fields blank and mark them as unresolved. Do not fill them from a similarly named course or an older brochure. This first check prevents a comparison between qualifications that merely share the word “master”.

## 2\. Look up the institution in the Swiss official information route

The [swissuniversities list of accredited Swiss higher education institutions](https://www.swissuniversities.ch/en/topics/studying/accredited-swiss-higher-education-institutions?ref=peridot.works), checked on 9 October 2026, is an information list under the Higher Education Act, or HEdA. It identifies the Swiss Accreditation Council as the decision-making body for accreditation.

For example, the list places Glion Institute of Higher Education and Les Roches Global Hospitality Education among university of applied sciences institutes. That verifies how those institutions appear in this list on the check date. It does not establish personal admission, every programme’s accreditation, or the delivery arrangements for a particular campus and intake.

Match names carefully and save the page and check date in your record. If an institution’s name or relationship is unclear, take the exact question to the Accreditation Council and the school. A search result or logo collection is not a substitute for resolving the identity.

## 3\. Understand what a missing entry does and does not mean

The [Swiss Accreditation Council’s explanation of public and private institutions](https://akkreditierungsrat.ch/en/ufaq/are-the-accreditation-conditions-the-same-for-private-and-public-higher-education-institutions/?ref=peridot.works), published in November 2022 and checked on 9 October 2026, explains that federal accreditation obligations for private institutions relate to use of protected designations. Cantonal rules may be stricter. The accreditation standards apply equally to public and private institutions once admitted to the procedure.

Consequently, “private” is not a complete quality judgment, and a missing entry should prompt investigation rather than an instant accusation. Equally, a provider’s existence does not settle whether its award is accepted for your purpose. Ask for the precise legal and academic basis of the qualification, with official evidence that addresses the actual route.

Do not combine a membership, industry association logo, programme badge and institutional accreditation into one undifferentiated “recognised worldwide” claim. Write down what each item actually refers to and who can verify it.

## 4\. Check acceptance for the next step you actually want

Identify your intended use: applying for further study, meeting an employer’s qualification requirement, or entering a profession with its own rules. Ask the receiving university, employer or competent professional authority about the exact award. Their answer is more useful than assuming every possible next step follows from the same institutional listing.

For further study, send the award title, awarding body, qualification level and available course documentation to the receiving admissions team. Ask what evidence they need; do not ask them to evaluate an incomplete marketing screenshot. For a career aim, separate academic acceptance from work permission and recruitment. Those are different decisions.

Keep the purpose narrow. “Can I apply for this later course with this award?” is a question someone can assess. “Is it globally accepted?” leaves the country, organisation and intended use undefined.

## 5\. Build one evidence card per route

Use these six fields for each programme:

- Exact award and awarding institution.
- Teaching provider, campus and intake.
- Accreditation evidence, scope and check date.
- Your intended next study or career use.
- Written answer from the relevant receiving organisation, if obtained.
- Open question and the person or authority able to resolve it.

Only then compare the course’s learning and assessment against your background using our [master’s course comparison guide](https://www.peridot.works/compare-masters-courses/). Keep funding separate with the [full-budget guide](https://www.peridot.works/masters-budget-beyond-tuition/). A qualification check does not establish affordability or employment.

Your next step is one completed evidence card for your leading option, with unresolved items clearly visible. That gives your family and a counselling conversation a precise question to investigate before a deposit decision. A researched shortlist is a set of documented routes, not a promise that every attractive name will deliver the same result.
