- Description: Understand how Sweden’s master application order affects a single offer, lower-ranked deletions and late reapplication before finalising your choices.
- Author: Santosh Srinivas

On Universityadmissions.se, a master's application can contain up to four programmes, but the system can offer you only one study place. When you are offered a place, programmes below it in your ranking are deleted. The order should therefore express a decision you are willing to live with, rather than merely reproduce the order in which you found the courses.

This guide concerns Sweden's central master's application process, not the separate bachelor's rules or an individual university's admission decision. Official ranking and reapplication guidance was checked on 26 October 2026\. It does not estimate anyone's chance of admission.

## Understand what an offer does to the lower choices

The [official master's ranking guidance](https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/apply-to-masters/rank-your-selections-masters/?ref=peridot.works) explains that your highest-ranked choice is considered first. Eligibility and available places still matter. If that choice does not produce an offer, the next choice is considered, and the process continues.

Consider a hypothetical list: A, B, C and D. Assume the result offers you B. Under the published rule, C and D are deleted from that application. You should not expect to collect offers from all four and only then decide which to accept. Read the actual notification for any status affecting a higher choice; this example does not predict a reserve-list outcome.

This consequence is why preference order belongs in the family's decision process before selection. A lower choice cannot reliably serve as an option you intend to keep open after the system issues a higher-ranked offer.

## Test each programme as the only offer you receive

For each proposed choice, ask what would make you willing and able to enrol if it became the single offer. Keep these checks separate:

- Learning fit: the actual programme, campus, delivery mode and assessed work match what you want to learn.
- Preparation: you can document the published entry requirements, with any unresolved condition clearly identified.
- Funding: the plan works with the award actually confirmed, or the absence of an award remains an explicit unresolved dependency.
- Practical feasibility: the study period, family arrangements and accommodation planning are workable, subject to their own approvals and availability.
- Remaining uncertainty: you know which answer could change your preference before the ranking deadline.

Do not treat willingness to apply as willingness to enrol. If one programme would be unacceptable without an unconfirmed scholarship, investigate that dependency before giving it a priority you would otherwise choose differently. This guide does not establish any university's scholarship-ranking requirement; check the exact award's rules separately.

Our [course-comparison guide](https://www.peridot.works/compare-masters-courses/) helps with the learning question, while the [budget guide](https://www.peridot.works/masters-budget-beyond-tuition/) keeps financial assumptions visible. The central ranking mechanism does not make either check unnecessary.

## Write a short preference record

Use the exact programme and application codes rather than abbreviated course names. For each ranked item, record its entry term, current position, your reason for choosing that position and the unresolved question most likely to change it.

Then test adjacent choices: if both became academically possible and fundable on the terms you have actually verified, which would you choose? If the answer is unclear, compare the specific difference: a required project, the programme sequence, an actual cost obligation or the family's constraint. A general university reputation score does not resolve that personal decision.

Keep conditional preferences explicit. You may prefer one programme under a confirmed award and another without it. The purpose of this record is to expose that dependence while there is time to check it, not to invent a funding result or a strategy that guarantees admission.

Save the final order and the policy date you checked for your own records. This is a personal decision aid, not a recommendation to share application documents or account credentials with anyone.

## Use the application deadline as the normal ranking boundary

The ranking page says you can change the order until the application deadline. Use its linked key-dates guidance for the actual round and intake; do not borrow a date from another semester or an older admission cycle.

After that deadline, the same page explains that deleting and adding programmes to change their rank can make the changed selections late applications. A late selection is considered only if places remain after ordinary selection. The programme also needs to be open for late application.

Consequently, a late reordering is not equivalent to editing an on-time preference list. Before changing anything in a live application, read the applicable instructions and verify the current programme status. This article does not assess your account or advise deleting an existing selection.

## Reapplication is a separate process

The [official reapplication guidance](https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/selection-and-admissions-results/reapplying/?ref=peridot.works) says applicants may reapply to deleted programmes only where they remain open for late application. It distinguishes cases such as deletion following a higher offer, a qualification issue or late documentation; the instructions depend on why the selection was deleted.

Do not assume a reapply button restores the original priority or guarantees a place. Keep the original result and the exact reason for deletion with your own application record, then follow the published route for that situation. A later document or a changed preference does not automatically reopen an on-time application.

## Keep future work and residence plans separate

A programme's position in the application does not establish a job opportunity, immigration entitlement or a graduate outcome. Check those claims against their own evidence, using our [graduate-employment evidence guide](https://www.peridot.works/reading-graduate-employment-data/) where helpful. Do not make the ranking depend on a salary or work-access assumption that has not been verified.

Next action: read each programme as a possible single offer, resolve the highest-impact learning and funding questions, and save a reasoned order before the applicable application deadline.
