- Description: Plan Ireland’s graduate Stamp 1G around award notification, current permission expiry, initial application and conditional renewal evidence.
- Author: Santosh Srinivas

A master’s ending and a graduation ceremony taking place are different events. For a graduate considering Ireland’s Third Level Graduate Programme, the written notification of achieving the award matters to the application timeline. So does the expiry of the permission you currently hold. Treating “up to two years” as an automatic stay can hide both the initial application work and a later renewal condition.

This guide is a dated planning record for the graduate route, checked on 12 October 2026\. It does not determine your individual eligibility, approve a permission change or predict employment. Read the current official conditions for your own history and award before acting.

## Start with the award notification and valid permission

[Immigration Service Delivery’s programme guidance](https://www.irishimmigration.ie/my-situation-has-changed-since-i-arrived-in-ireland/third-level-graduate-programme/?ref=peridot.works) requires a current Stamp 2 permission and an up-to-date registration card, with application within six months of written notification that the award has been achieved. Where the ceremony has not happened, an official institution or awarding-body letter can evidence the final award.

Record the actual notification date, the current permission expiry and the evidence you hold. The six-month application window does not extend a permission that must remain current. Do not use a ceremony booking or an assumed completion date as a replacement for the notification and eligibility evidence.

Before the course ends, ask the institution how and when it normally confirms the final award, what document it can provide and what happens if results are delayed. Keep an estimate separate from the actual letter. A delay could affect your planning, but this article does not establish a remedy or an extension for you.

## Check the first period and the renewal separately

For eligible graduates with a Level 9 or higher award, the official programme guidance describes twelve months initially. A further twelve months depends on satisfying the authorities that appropriate steps have been taken towards suitable graduate-level employment, subject to the overall eight-year limit on student conditions. Previous use of the programme and other eligibility rules also need checking.

Make two separate rows in your calendar: initial application and possible renewal. For each, keep the relevant conditions, evidence, official instructions and date you need to review the task. A possible second period is not funding, permission or a job already secured.

Use the recognised award and your individual history rather than inferring eligibility solely from a course marketed as a master’s. A programme’s academic level is one part of the check; it does not establish that every applicant meets all immigration conditions.

## Prepare an honest employment-search record

The renewal requirement makes the quality of your job-search evidence important. Keep a private record of actual applications, responses, interviews and relevant agency activity, with dates and the original evidence. The [graduate job-search log](https://www.peridot.works/masters-graduate-job-search-log/) provides a general structure.

Do not fabricate activity, count an unsubmitted draft as an application, or describe an invitation as an interview already attended. Keep employer and recruiter messages in their proper context. No particular number of applications or interviews is proposed here as a threshold that guarantees renewal.

Alongside activity, assess whether the roles are a sensible match. What tasks do employers require? What experience, technical knowledge and communication skills can you substantiate? Which requirements are essential and which are preferred? Use first-party descriptions for the location and role, checked on the day you rely on them.

This record should help you improve the search rather than merely produce a large application count. If the work repeatedly requires experience you do not have, investigate the gap and a realistic preparation step. A course’s career list or national employment headline cannot show that a specific employer will hire you.

## Read the conditions for the graduate stamp

The [official immigration-stamps page](https://www.irishimmigration.ie/registering-your-immigration-permission/information-on-registering/immigration-permission-stamps/?ref=peridot.works) says graduate Stamp 1G permits full-time work in accordance with employment law, but not operating a business or self-employment. Continuing to work after its expiry requires an appropriate employment-permit route and the usual application process. The page also describes other Stamp 1G categories; use the graduate section for this plan.

Permission to work does not create a job offer. A future employment-permit application also has its own conditions and decision. Do not assume that an employer, a salary figure or an offer letter automatically resolves that later route. Verify the applicable requirements through current official guidance when you have an actual proposed role.

Use current registration instructions rather than an old checklist’s appointment office or regional process. Keep your own permission conditions visible throughout the search; the plan should not depend on ignoring an expiry while waiting for an employer response.

## Fund the search and a change of plan

Create a month-by-month cash plan from money genuinely available after study commitments. Include actual housing and other continuing costs, the payments relevant to your application and a reserve for a change of plan. Do not treat the maximum possible permission duration as an instruction to spend until that date.

The [full master’s budget guide](https://www.peridot.works/masters-budget-beyond-tuition/) helps keep costs and confirmed funds separate. Choose a financial review date early enough to respond to your accommodation terms and personal commitments. Keep assumed employment income outside available funds until its terms and payment timing are established.

If you receive an offer, investigate the tasks, location, contract terms, permission compatibility and first-payday timing separately. An offer can be useful progress while leaving material questions unresolved. No salary, search duration or personal outcome is forecast by this guide.

## Finish with a four-date record

Write down the award-notification date, current permission expiry, your initial-application preparation date and the next review of any potential renewal. Add the evidence still missing and the official source checked. Keep dates for completed events separate from dates you have merely planned.

That record gives you a concrete way to coordinate study completion, a lawful graduate route, a credible job search and affordable time. The objective is to resolve the next necessary condition while the options remain open, without treating a master’s degree or a conditional renewal as guaranteed employment or continued residence.
