- Description: Read APS India’s technical signature-warning notice, preserve the original PDF, and separate file verification from individual acceptance or admission decisions.

A warning about a PDF signature does not, by itself, establish that an APS certificate is invalid. APS India's technical notice dated 9 July 2026 explains that some certificates issued during a digital-seal update period can trigger reader warnings. Its instruction is to preserve and submit the original APS PDF, rather than editing the file to make the warning disappear.

This guide concerns an already issued certificate and its file handling. It does not determine whether you need APS, which qualifications an application must contain, whether dMAT applies, or when a certificate will be issued. No applicant's PDF, account or personal information was inspected. The [current APS notice](https://aps-india.de/news/?ref=peridot.works) was independently reviewed on 23 October 2026.

## Separate the warning from a conclusion about validity

APS explains that a PDF reader may report a problem with a signature, an unknown validation status or an expired seal certificate for some files from the technical update period. It distinguishes that technical message from the validity of the APS certificate itself. It does not say that every warning on every file is harmless.

The notice identifies three relevant checks: whether the document changed after sealing, whether APS India sealed it, and whether the seal certificate was valid when the APS certificate was issued. Those are different questions from whether a reader displays a reassuring symbol today.

Do not conclude that a file is authentic just because it has no warning, or that it needs replacement solely because it has one. This article cannot verify either conclusion for your file. If the situation remains unclear, use APS and the receiving institution's official verification route instead of relying on another applicant's screenshot.

## Keep the issued file separate from an application bundle

APS asks applicants to submit the original PDF without renaming, merging, compressing, scanning or otherwise editing it. Follow that administrative instruction when preparing a submission. A convenient combined application pack is not automatically the right format for this document.

Keep the original as received separately from working copies of other application materials. Before using a file, establish whether it is the issued attachment or something you printed, scanned, combined, annotated or exported afterwards. A scan that looks similar is not the original digitally sealed file.

The notice's instruction about filenames should not be turned into an unsupported technical claim that a filename change necessarily alters the contents of a PDF. The practical point is simpler: preserve the issued file and follow the issuer's submission instructions, rather than inventing a cleanup process.

If a recipient's upload instructions appear to conflict with the issuer's directions, clarify the requirement through the recipient's official channel before improvising. Do not assume that merging everything is mandatory, or that a portal error authorises you to alter the certificate.

## Review the message without modifying the evidence

Read the exact warning and the available signature details in a suitable PDF reader. Keep the question focused: is the message about the seal's technical validation, a change to the file, or something you cannot yet interpret? An unfamiliar message should remain unresolved until it is understood.

Do not remove a seal, flatten the document, replace pages or change security settings merely to obtain a cleaner-looking display. No software installation or trust-setting change is proposed here. A cosmetic disappearance of a warning would not itself establish that the receiving institution has verified the original record.

Keep any diagnostic notes private and minimal. You can record the warning wording and what needs clarification without posting the certificate, identifiers or academic record in a public forum. No document upload or personal record is requested by this guide.

## Treat acceptance as another gate

APS says valid certificates may continue to be accepted by German universities, uni-assist, VFS and visa sections, and that institutions can seek individual verification when in doubt. That does not let this article promise that a particular recipient has accepted your file or completed a different application step.

A digitally sealed APS document is not an admission offer, a visa decision or evidence that every university application condition is complete. For example, the existing [TUM application-track guide](https://www.peridot.works/tum-vpd-two-application-tracks/) separates programme application work from an external document process; it is not a reason to treat all German application routes as identical.

## Make the next action specific

Create a short private record with four fields: the original file retained, the exact warning observed, the issuer or recipient instruction that applies, and the unresolved verification or submission step. Mark facts as checked or unanswered. Do not mark a certificate invalid or accepted on the strength of a reader icon alone.

Use the [application calendar](https://www.peridot.works/masters-application-calendar/) to track the outstanding step separately from your desired submission date. No processing-time estimate, fee, replacement requirement or seven-day result is inferred from a student anecdote.

Your next action is to preserve the original and identify the precise unresolved question before changing or resubmitting anything. This original AI-assisted explanation uses APS's current technical notice, not an individual authenticity assessment.
